Jannik Sinner vs Nuno Borges Preview & Tips

Jannik Sinner looked more than a little rusty in his opening match at Wimbledon in 2026 as he needed all five sets to eliminate Miomir Kecmanovic.

Nuno Borges enjoyed a far easier opening round at Wimbledon as he knocked out Tristan Boyer in straight sets.

  • Sinner has only lost three times in 2026 (W38)

Head To Head

The pair have only met once on the tennis court, with Sinner easing to a 6-3 6-4 win at the Sofia Open back in 2022.

Jannik Sinner Form

Jannik Sinner was not at his best in the first round at Wimbledon, with his clash against Kecmanovic seeing him go 2-1 down. While he did eventually pull through in a 4-6 6-3 6-7 6-2 6-3 triumph, his performance was not the all-conquering Sinner we have come to expect.

Sinner's outing at Wimbledon was his first competitive match since he lost in the second round at the French Open. While still tipped for glory, is Sinner showing signs that he is struggling right now?

The Wimbledon champion is aiming for another crown in London, and while I back him to secure a simple win in this one, his potential route to the final may not be as straightforward as some might think.

Nuno Borges Form

Nuno Borges was excellent in the opening round as he bounced back from his 6-1 6-2 loss to Ethan Quinn in the semi-finals at Mallorca on June 26 with a win over Tristan Boyer on June 29.

His triumph helped to make it four wins in his last five outings, while he has won in straight sets in each of those matches. Borges is playing some good tennis right now as he continues to try to better a record that currently stands at 18 wins and 20 defeats in 2026.

In 2025, Borges managed to make it to the third round at Wimbledon, with this also where he was eliminated at the Australian Open and French Open this year. While Borges will be full of confidence following his own performance, I am backing against him getting anything from this one as Sinner gets back to winning comfortably.

Verdict

I am backing Sinner to storm to a 3-0 win as he eliminates Borges in the second round.
