Yue Yuan has a huge opportunity to catch Iga Swiatek cold as she faces her opponent in the first round of the first Slam of the season.

Iga Swiatek might arrive for this one on the back of a pair of defeats, but she has looked in decent touch at the start of the new season.
Defeats to Coco Gauff (6-4 6-2) and Belinda Bencic (3-6 6-0 6-3) saw Swiatek in decent form despite losing. Now, Swiatek switches her attention to the unforgiving nature of Grand Slam tennis. She will hope that these two defeats have gotten any losses over the next two weeks out of her system.
On hard courts, Swiatek boasts an impressive 205 wins and 54 defeats across her career. A simple 2-0 win over her opponent in their only meeting saw Swiatek easily win their clash, and I back more of the same in this one.
Yue Yuan Form
Yue Yuan has impressed across 2026, with six outing resulting in five wins and a place at the Australian Open.
It is worth noting that Yuan's first two victories in qualifying came in battling wins as she was taken to three sets. When comparing the hard court records of the pair, Yuan's more modest 214 wins and 154 defeats shows the difference in quality between the pair.
While Yuan will relish the chance to battle with one of the best in the world, I predict a 2-0 loss for the underdog n the first round.

I am backing Swiatek to secure a 2-0 win in the opening round of the competition as she eases into the second round.
