Pedro Martinez vs Novak Djokovic Preview & Tips
Pedro Martinez has been in good form this year, winning his opening five matches of the new season.
Novak Djokovic will take to the court for the first time in 2026 after failing to make an appearance in any competition this year.
Head To Head
This will be the first time the two have met in a competitive match.
Pedro Martinez Form
Pedro Martinez started the new year with five positive performances at the Bengaluru Challenger. Four wins in straight sets came along with a 2-1 win in the first round, with Martinez growing with each performance.
Martinez may arrive for this one in good touch, but the omens heading into this one aren't great. He has won 76 times on hard courts, losing 73 times. Martinez has also returned losing records in his last five completed years from 2021-2025 on hard courts.
While the prospect of knocking out arguably the best tennis player of all time will be tantalising, I cannot see Martinez securing the win as he is eliminated in the first round.
Novak Djokovic Form
Novak Djokovic has not played a match since he won in Athens back in November of 2025. Two full months have passed since Djokovic has played a competitive match, although this has not seen him miss a shot at a Grand Slam in this time.
Across his career, Djokovic has managed to win 562 hard court matches, losing only 95 times. His record is outrageous, and he will fancy his chances of storming into the second round by defeating an opponent he has never taken on.
While Djokovic may be slightly rusty heading into his first match of the new season, I see nothing other than a 3-0 win for the veteran. Djokovic has continually made a habit out of finding a way to up his game and, with a huge challenge ahead if he is to win the Australian Open, I back him to start with a statement win.
Verdict
I am backing Djokovic to easily beat Martinez in their first round meeting as he secures a 3-0 win.
