France vs England Preview & Tips

France were handed a chastening 50-40 loss at the hands of Scotland in their last Six Nations match as they slid to a stunning defeat as their hopes of securing a Grand Slam went up in smoke.

England were handed an embarrassing 23-18 loss at the hands of Italy in their last outing as their losing run was extended to three matches.

  • France have won three of their four Six Nations matches in 2026 (L1)
  • England have been beaten in their last three outings
  • Louis Bielle-Biarrey has scored six tries in the competition this season

Head To Head

In their last 10 meetings, France have won five matches with England winning the other five.

France Form

France came out second best in one of the great Six Nations matches as they were beaten 50-40 by an inspired Scottish side at Murrayfield.

The running rugby on show coupled with Scotland's ferocious defence saw France struggle to make inroads in a match many thought they would storm to victory in. Four tries between the 65th and 81st minutes saw France drag themselves to within 10 points of their opponents with their try scoring bonus point seeing them keep hold of top spot on the ladder.

With a +79 points difference to Scotland's +21, France will know that matching the result of the Scottish will likely see them win the championship. However, France will not likely be content with a battling win at home.

Instead, they will want to prove their loss to Scotland last week was merely a blip as they roar to a win over England. The English arrive in woeful form having lost their last three and France will target them as the ideal opposition to face this week as they look to ensure their attacking rugby clicks back into gear.

Set alongside the fact England have looked clueless in attack, it means France will also look to bolster a defence that shipped more points against Scotland (50) than they conceded across their other three games (34).

While France looked out-of-sorts last weekend, Louis Bielle-Biarrey secured his now customary Six Nations try, and I back more of the same in this one as he torments England with his pace.

England From

England's Six Nations campaign has quickly fallen apart with a solitary win over Wales on the opening weekend making way for three embarrassing defeats.

It was hoped their loss to Scotland (31-20) was merely a blip, but they were then humiliated by Ireland (42-21) in a heavy home defeat. Their most embarrassing loss was yet to come, with Italy securing their first ever win over England in a 23-18 triumph.

Across each game England have been insipid with the ball. Constant box kicking has failed to put the opposition under the desired pressure, while one-off runners has failed to provide punch in midfield, with England not earning the right to go wide with the ball. Saying that, the English have rarely put the ball in the hands of their wingers as they have chopped and changed their back three.

With both attack and defence misfiring, it is tough to see England getting anywhere near France in this one. While both sides come into this one on the back of chastening defeats, most will agree that the French are far more likely to use the disappointment of their performance last week to fuel a big performance in the finale of the competition.

A big loss in this one could spell the end of the international careers of a number of English players, with their campaign in 2026 particularly bad.

Verdict

I am backing Lous Bielle-Biarrey to score once again as France storm to a big win over rudderless England.
