Chiefs vs Hurricanes
The Chiefs have been outstanding of late, and they arrive for their top of the ladder clash against the Hurricanes with a good run behind them. In their last three, they have beaten the Force (24-14), the Waratahs (42-14) and Moana Pasifika (62-17), with their winning margins getting progressively larger. While the Chiefs have been running in the tries of late, they will not expect an opponent that will simply roll over and allow them to storm to the win.
The Hurricanes continue to lead the Super Rugby standings after notching six wins from their opening seven matches. A shock loss to Fijian Drua back on February 28 remains their only defeat, while they arrive for this one on the back of five consecutive wins. The major worry for the 'Canes in this one is that their only defeat of the season came on the road, and I predict that they will slump to another defeat away from home.
Across their last 10 meetings, the Chiefs have won six times with the 'Canes winning the other four. Importantly, the last four have seen the Hurricanes dominate with three wins and one defeat. This means I am not backing either side to run away with the win. Instead, I predict that the Chiefs will make it three successive wins at home in the Super Rugby in a pulsating match that goes one way and then the other.
Force vs Crusaders
The Force have found it incredibly difficult to ply their trade in Super Rugby this season, with the side slumping to six defeats across their opening eight matches. Denied bottom of the ladder by Moana Pasifika, the Force need to start finding ways to win matches if they are to have any hope of securing one of the post-season spots. However, having lost seven of their last eight against the Crusaders, the Force are not the side to back in this one.
The Crusaders need a big performance this week after they were beaten by an outstanding performance from the Reds last week. Their 31-26 defeat on the road put an end to a three-game winning run, with the Crusaders slipping 10 points off the Hurricanes at the summit. With the competition beyond the halfway point of the group stage, the Crusaders know they cannot allow one defeat to snowball into two.
With seven wins in their last eight against the Force, I am backing the Crusaders to storm to victory as they hand their hosts a heavy defeat.
Verdict
I am backing the Chiefs to defeat the leaders in their top of the ladder clash as the Crusaders bounce back from their loss to the Reds.
