Newcastle Jets vs Sydney FC Preview & Tips – Jets to take another step towards A-League glory

Sydney FC have not been at their best this season and yet they are still on course for the ultimate accolade in the A-League with the final potentially 90 minutes away. 

The Jets have won three of their last 10 against their opponents with Sydney FC winning five times and two games ending as draws. 

After finishing at the summit of the A-League with 15 wins and 48 points, the Newcastle Jets will feel that they are the side to beat with two rounds of the competition left to come. 

A 1-1 draw in the first-leg of their clash with Sydney FC did not end in the victory the Jets would have been hoping for, but it means they are in control of the tie with their home leg to come. 

Their last home game against Sydney ended in a 2-0 win back in December, while they are now unbeaten in their last four. The one worry will be that they have drawn three matches in this run but, when the Jets have needed to hit top gear, they have found a way to accelerate beyond their opponents. I predict they will do just this as they eliminate Sydney FC this weekend. 

Sydney FC would have been hoping for slightly more from the home portion of their semi-final against the Newcastle Jets as their 1-1 draw ensured that the sides would enter the second-leg with the scores level. 

Positively, Sydney FC are unbeaten in their last six matches in a solid run of avoiding defeat. However, four of these matches have ended in draws, while they are now winless in their last three against the Jets. 

While anything can happen in a major semi-final, I predict that the A-League’s best regular season defence will come undone against the best attack in an entertaining encounter.
