Sydney FC vs Auckland FC Preview & Tips

Sydney FC failed to take the points against Perth Glory in their last league outing as they were held in a disappointing 0-0 draw.

Auckland FC were also left frustrated in their last game as they were beaten 1-0 by Central Coast Mariners on their own patch.

  • Sydney FC have drawn two of their last three league games (W1)
  • The pair have drawn three of their last four meetings

Head To Head

The pair have met five times in total, with Auckland FC winning twice and three matches ending in draws after 90 minutes.

Sydney FC Form

Sydney FC have stuttered in the latter-stages of their A-League campaign, with the side assured of a top six spot but currently seven points short of Newcastle Jets at the summit.

While each team would prefer to win the grand final over the minor premiership, the fact they are so far off the pace will be a worry for a side that have one win across their last six, with this run including two defeats and three draws.

At home they have been disappointing this year. 12 matches have resulted in five wins, three draws and four defeats, while they have drawn two of their last four at home, losing the other two. With an Auckland side they have never beaten in town this weekend, I am backing the home team to secure a battling draw.

Auckland FC Form

Auckland FC slipped to a stunning 1-0 home loss at the hands of Central Coast Mariners in their last game as they saw any hopes of finishing at the top of the ladder extinguished.

Currently sat four points behind the Jets at the summit, Auckland FC will rue a four-game winless run that has seen the side draw twice and lose twice. More worrying still will be their poor home form of late, with the side winless in their last four on their own patch.

While Auckland boast the second best away record in the league, they have still drawn four of their 12 on the road, and I predict they will have to settle for a draw that may yet see them finish in third in the league.

Verdict

I am backing the two sides to share the points in a battling draw that means both teams head into the playoffs in poor form.
