Alex De Minaur vs Jakub Mensik Preview & Tips
Alex De Minaur benefitted from a walkover in the second round as Alexander Blockx was forced to withdraw.
Jakub Mensik needed all five sets to see-off Mariano Navone in the second round as he secured a battling 3-2 triumph.
- Mensik has never beaten De Minaur (P5, L5)
Head To Head
The pair have met a total of five times, with De Minaur winning all five meetings, the last of which came at the United Cup back in January.
Alex De Minaur Form
Alex De Minaur was excellent in the opening round of the French Open as he easily beat Toby Samuel in a 6-4 6-4 6-2 win. He was then afforded extra time off the court as Alexander Blockx was unable to partake in their second round clash.
Across his last six total matches, De Minaur has lost once, while he has won five times when including his walkover in the last round.
Slightly worrying for De Minaur will be his record on clay. The Aussie has won 82 times and lost 61 clay court outings. Fortunately for De Minaur, he boasts a perfect record against Mensik. He has been far too good for his opponent, meaning I predict another simple win as De Minaur extends his run of never dropping a set to his opponent.
Jakub Mensik Form
Jakub Mensik traded a very easy win in the opening round for the mother of all challenges against Mariano Navone.
In the second round, Mensik ground out a 6-3 2-6 6-4 1-6 7-6 victory as he was pushed all the way. While he did showcase his budding ability on the court, on a different day he would likely have slumped to a heart-breaking loss.
In the third round, Mensik has it all to do. De Minaur will have benefitted from time away from the court in the second round while Mensik was taken all the way in his last outing. The 20-year-old has already shown glimpses of his ability, but I predict he will have to wait for another chance at the French Open as he is eliminated in the third round.
Verdict
I am backing Alex De Minaur to roar to a 3-0 win over his opponent as he makes the most out of his walkover in the second round.
