Matteo Arnaldi has taken advantage of a number of top seeds struggling by taking his place in the semi-finals of the 2026 French Open.
Flavio Cobolli has also enjoyed an excellent run to the last four of the French Open after securing five consecutive wins.

The pair have met a total of five times with Arnaldi winning three matches and Cobolli winning twice. Importantly, Cobolli won the last meeting, with this seeing him eliminate Arnaldi in a 6-3 6-3 6-7 6-1 win at the French Open in 2025.

Matteo Arnaldi continues to star at the 2026 French Open, with the youngster eliminating some big names on the men's side of the game.
Beating Stefanos Tsitsipas, Frances Tiafoe and Matteo Berrettini across his opening five rounds shows he has been outstanding, although his win over the latter came as he was forced to retire with the score at 7-5 5-2 in favour of Arnaldi.
Despite not completing his clash with Berrettini, Arnaldi can be very proud of his efforts. However, his run of five successive wins helps to paper over the cracks of his 2026 campaign. 14 wins have come alongside nine defeats, with six of these defeats coming on clay.
While Arnaldi will more than likely challenge Cobolli in a tight match between two rising stars, I do not back him to secure his place in the showpiece final.
Flavio Cobolli Form
Flavio Cobolli has looked relatively untroubled across his French Open campaign, with a pair of wins in four sets in the last two rounds the furthest he has been taken in any meeting.
3-0 wins in the first three rounds were followed by fighting victories over Zachary Svajda and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth and fifth rounds. Particularly impressive was his win in the fifth round as he came from one set down to secure a trio of 6-4 wins.
Cobolli's own record in 2026 is better than his opponent, with the former winning 23 of his 35 outings. While he has not been perfect, he has shown he is able to juggle the pressure of appearing in big matches, and I back him to take his place in the French Open final on the back of a battling win.
Verdict
I am backing Cobolli to secure a 3-2 triumph in the semi-final as he edges to within a single win of a Grand Slam crown.
